The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University (TNDALU) was established by the Government of Tamil Nadu through Act No. 43 of 1997 to advance and disseminate knowledge in legal education, teaching, and research. It was inaugurated on September 20, 1997, by His Excellency Shri K.R. Narayanan, former President of India, and commenced operations on October 3, 1997. Recognized by the Bar Council of India (BCI) and the University Grants Commission (UGC) (Sec. 2f and 12b of the UGC Act), the University is also a member of esteemed institutions such as the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), the Association of Commonwealth Universities, UK, and the Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi.
Among the vibrant student-led organizations at the School of Excellence in Law is the Indian Society for Universal Dialogue (ISUD). ISUD is committed to fostering a platform for the thoughtful exchange of ideas and perspectives on contemporary issues. Inspired by the Oxford Union Society, which has long championed freedom of speech and intellectual discourse, ISUD aspires to cultivate a culture of robust dialogue within the academic community. Upholding the spirit of the Indian Constitution, the society promotes inclusivity, unity, and diversity—one conversation at a time.
